HIST200 - Regional Studies Credits: 3
Regional Studies offers an introduction to the historical and cultural background of a region that has had and will continue to have grand strategic importance to the United States. The course explores the interplay between area-specific cultural factors, traditional regional dynamics, and historical trends in the wider global system. The course will touch on some or all of the following issues connected with the region in question and the transition to modernity: nation-state formation and nationalism; imperialism and globalization; the relationship between state and civil society; industrialization and technological change; ideological contestation; and transformations in the parameters of human agency. This is a required undergraduate course designed in part to meet the Department of the Navy requirements for newly commissioned officers.
Prerequisites: HIST100 3 class hours a week
