HIST250 - Latin America in the Twentieth Century Credits: 3
This course will examine the relationships between Latin American history and global social, political, and economic power in the twentieth century. During this period, Latin American societies became part of the modern world because of their interactions with Europe and the United States. The interactions were complex as some Latin Americans embraced foreign ideas and welcomed participation in the global economy, while others worried that they might dilute or destroy traditional power and lead to a new kind of colonialism. Ultimately this course will help see how local histories and global histories connect and how that connection can lead to conflict. This is an elective course.
