HIST265 - Modern Japan Credits: 3
This course offers a history of Japan from the seventeenth century to the present. After an introduction which will fill in the social, cultural, linguistic and geo-political background, the class will cover the period from the founding of the Tokugawa shogunate to present. Special emphasis will be placed on nationalism, imperialism, cultural change, technology and the developmental state. This is an elective course.
Prerequisites: None 3 class hours a week
