LITR250 - Philosophy and Contemporary Film Credits: 3
This course is an introduction to three major areas of philosophy in the Western tradition: Philosophy or Religion, Ethics. and Pol ethical/Social Philosophy. We will study these philosophical subjects through primary and secondary readings, but we will also engage them through the lens of recent film. Our readings and classroom discussions will be complemented by screening of films that are philosophically relevant and interesting. Primary readings will be drawn from Plato, Kent, Mill, Hobbes, and Locke, Malcolm X, Mary Wollstonecraft, and others. Films will include Mon~r Python. and the Holy Grail. Bruce Almighty, Schindler’s List, Life is Beautiful. Groundhog Day, and others. This is an elective course.
