LITR280 - Literature and Ethics Credits: 3
This course will explore the use of the literary text as a means of transmitting, explicating, and understanding moral values. Nearly all societies have used stories to promote ethical understanding. Moral philosophers regularly use anecdote and example to clarity points about ethics, and many writers of fiction have seen their work as having a vital moral function. Assigned readings will include works by novelists Joseph Conrad and E.M. Forster and phi losopher Martha Nussbaum. This is an elective course.
